Islam encourages feeding the hungry, regardless of race, religion or background. The righteous are those who feed others, saying:
We feed you for the sake of the Almighty alone. We seek from you neither reward nor thanks. [Holy Quran 76:8-9]
Feed Glasgow
Feed Glasgow is run by volunteers from a wide range of supporting organisations which provide hot meals and friendly conversation to needy people. Originally, it was set up to raise awareness within the Muslim community about the poverty affecting people living in our midst. By working together, Feed Glasgow has provided over 2,000 meals. Some volunteers choose to donate financially towards the project, some buy the ingredients and others cook the food. The food is given to homeless people across the city at various shelters and soup kitchens.
How to Help
We feed people the last Wednesday of every month. You can support our effort in any of the following ways:
- Supply the ingredients.
- Cook a meal.
- Deliver a meal to a soup kitchen.
- Make a monetary donation.
- OR all of the above.
To get involved, please contact us and one of our volunteers will reply with more details.
